Shadow Minister for Education Honourable Mikaele Leawere has welcomed the decision by the Attorney General to disband the Ministry of Education’s Disciplinary Board.

The AG last week announced: Education ministry’s Disciplinary Services Board disbanded

LEAWERE: “I thank the Honourable Attorney General for taking this step. This decision will and has made many teachers thankful, particularly for those that were subjected to unfair dismissal from an illegal board, where they did not have any form of recourse.  Now with the Public Service Discipline Tribunal, the teachers and civil servants will have an avenue for a fair disciplinary hearing”.

Honourable Leawere also supported the position of the Fiji Teachers Union that those that have been unfairly dismissed by the Education Disciplinary Service Board should be reinstated to their previous position and if the Ministry of Education has any charges to lay against them, they should refer the matter to the Public Service Disciplinary Tribunal.
