A 21-year-old mother is under police investigation for dumping her 8-month-old baby boy at a rubbish dump last night.

The mother, of Ibo Place in Nadawa, is believed to have abandoned her baby at a waste dump in the Borete Street after an argument with her de-facto husband.

The child was found by a couple of the same area who heard the baby crying from the dump.

The baby has been medically examined and now staying with his father after consultations with the Social Welfare Department.

Police Spokesperson, Inspector Josaia Weicavu said they are still continuing with investigations, but reminded the public not to take out their frustration on innocent children.

“The life and safety of children should be paramount at all times. We will not tolerate any form of abuse towards children especially to those who are still at their tender age and are vulnerable to all sorts of physical and emotional abuse.”
