Farmers of Wanibuka were reminded of their role in the development of the Tailevu Province in terms of banana production.

Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management Hon. Inia Seruiratu recently opened the banana cooler at Nasau village, Wainibuka, Tailevu and highlighted the importance of Fiji’s banana industry.

During his address, he emphasised the importance of making use of natural resources to improve the livelihoods of Fijians.

“Farming is the best employment but we need to change our way of farming from subsistence to more business oriented,” Minister Seruiratu said.

“Farmers need to work together and plant in an organised manner for specific markets that have been identified.

The Minister called on farmers to realise the benefits of targeting specific markets and he urged them to work closely with authorities including government to achieve this.

“We support this type of farming and urge farmers to vigorously pursue integrated agricultural practices,” Minister Seruiratu added
