The Ministry of Agriculture’s Research Division is currently carrying out the registration of all pesticides in the market in accordance with the Pesticide Act 41 of 1971.
The Registrar of Pesticide, Director Research Dr. Apaitia Macanawai said that the Pesticide Act 41 of 197 states that any product intended for use or used for controlling a pest or any adjuvant intended for use or used in connection with any such product needs to be registered.

Dr. Macanawai added that no pesticide may be used or offered for sale in the country unless such pesticide has been registered with the Registrar.

MACANAWAI: “Any pesticides entered in the Register of Pesticide shall be given a number known as the registered number. The pesticide survey we are undertaking addresses the proper registration, labeling and storage of pesticides. The survey was also able to identify the number of breaches in the country.”

Pesticides retailers are issued with a warning letter once they do not comply with the Pesticide Act.
The Ministry is also conducting awareness on the proper packaging, safe keeping, handling and labeling of pesticides.
