SODELPA to announce 20 candidates on Saturday

Social Democratic Liberal Party will announce some of their candidates for the 2018 General Elections at a special general meeting at the FTA Hall in Suva this weekend.

Sources close to the party told Newswire that only twenty names would be released on Saturday, consisting of some of the party’s most prominent members.  The rest will be named in January next year.

Three Indo-Fijians will be included in the first release, and a current parliamentarian will be a notable exclusion.

Candidates already confirmed by the management board are party leader Sitiveni Rabuka, board member Anare Jale, and parliamentarian Viliame Gavoka.

The selection panel consists of Rabuka, Jale, Savenaca Kamikamica, Sakiusa Raivoce, and former PM Laisenia Qarase and will finish their report by Thursday.

Before the special general meeting, the selection panel will submit their report to the management board for approval.

The candidates would have to agree to the party’s conditions and sign an agreement before their names are released.
