The trial date has been set for 23-year-old Eddie Murphy who is charged with Rape of an overseas volunteer.

This matter was called today at the Suva High Court before Justice Wengapulli.

The Court has set a trial date from the 2nd of October 2017 to the 13th of October 2017.

The State filed and served the Information and Disclosures today.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The matter has been adjourned to the 30th of January 2017 for mention.

The accused’s bail has been extended.

The 23-year-old man charged with ‘Rape’ of an overseas volunteer has been released on bail earlier this afternoon.

Eddie Murphy appeared before Judge Justice Achala Wengapulli in the Suva High Court.

Murphy was granted bail by Judge Wengapulli but on the following strict conditions:

  • Sureties to pay $2000 in cash
  • Reside at residence in Nasinu
  • Not to interfere with witnesses
  • Report to the Nasinu Police Station every Saturday from 7am to 7pm.
  • and to surrender all travel documents

Murphy is alleged to have committed the offence while working on a group project in Namosi with the complainant.

The case has been adjourned to the 20th of July 2016.

A 23-year-old man charged with rape appeared in the Suva High Court earlier this morning.

This matter was called today at the Suva High Court before Judge Justice Achala Wengapulli.

Eddie Murphy is charged with on count of Rape of an overseas volunteer.

Murphy is alleged to have committed the offence during a group project in Namosi of which both the accused and the victim were volunteers.

Justice Wengapulli adjourned the matter to 23 June for bail hearing.

The accused has been further remanded in custody.
