Police are investigating a case where a 16-year-old student is believed to have been defiled by a man in an apartment in Suva.

The victim and another student of the same age were called to meet a friend at the location after making contact through Facebook.  The perpetrator is still at large as investigations continue into the matter.

Police are reminding parents and guardians to be vigilant of their children’s whereabouts at all times.

A police statement said some students had been found loitering in amusement centers during school hours. Some of these students communicated with each other through social networking and converged at such venues without the knowledge of their parents or guardians.

Police said they will continue to check such sites for students and those found in such places during school hours would be taken to police stations with parents or guardians contacted accordingly.
