A 37-year-old Mechanic of Nakaulevu in Navua charged with 11 counts of ‘Rape’ appeared before the Navua Magistrates Court yesterday.

Parmendra Maharaj appeared before Magistrate Senileba Levaci.

The court heard that the accused allegedly raped a 16‑year‑old girl from May to July this year.

Magistrate Levaci  refused bail for the accused and further remanded him in custody.

This case has been transferred to the Suva High Court and the matter will be called on Thursday the 14th of July.

A 37-year-old mechanic of Nakaulevu in Navua has been charged with eleven counts of ‘Rape’ of a 16-year-old student.

Police spokesperson Inspector Josaia Weicavu said the man will be produced at the Navua Magistrates Court today.

Inspector Weicavu said members of the community especially students and young adults are urged to report any sexual approach or advancement from perpetrators.

WEICAVU: “We will come hard on them and make sure that justice is done to the vulnerable. If you’re planning to exploit students and young people, I’m warning you now to stop it and never think of it again. “

Inspector Weicavu said the Fiji Police Force will ensure that the young generation enjoys their lives without being abused sexually, physically or emotionally.
