A 78-year-old man charged with three counts of ‘Rape’, one count of ‘Unnatural Offense’ and one count of ‘Common Assault’ appeared in the Suva High Court this morning.

Judge Justice Salesi Temo said the sentencing has been adjourned due to a staff member of his court being ill and was unable to type out the sentencing.

The elderly man is alleged to have raped a 11-year-old girl who is now aged 21 over a period of three years between 2006 and 2009.

Vulaono had pleaded not guilty to four charges, however, he pleaded guilty to one count of “Common Assault”.

Charges:

  1. One count of Rape (between 3rd July – 20th November 2006).
  2. One count of Rape (on 22nd March 2007).
  3. One count of Unnatural Offense (unknown date).
  4. One count of Rape (September 2009)
  5. One count of Common Assault (17th September 2009)

The matter has been adjourned to the 17th of June for sentencing.

The accused has been further remanded in custody.
