150 victims of sexual offences under 18, six year-old-youngest

Statistics released by the Office of the Director Public Prosecutions (ODPP) today revealed that a total of two hundred sixty-four people have been charged since May last year to date with a total of four hundred sixty-two serious sexual offences.

The offences were:

  • Rape (353),
  • Attempted rape (7)
  • Indecent assault (10)
  • Defilement (24)
  • sexual assault (68).

There were 261 victims of the 462 sexual offences. Of the 261, there were 150 victims under the age of 18-years-old.

To date the youngest victim of serious sexual offences is a 6-month-old baby and the accused is the biological father.

There were 64 offences that occurred in domestic relationships or the accused were known to victims.

Additionally, there were charges of abductions, assault with intent to commit rape, pornographic activity and one count of murder as part of the act of rape.
