Six people are in custody after they were found with dried leaves believed to be marijuana in three separate cases reported in the Northern Division.

In the first report an 18-year-old of Naodamu, Labasa is in custody after he was found in possession of 2 sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana on Sunday afternoon at Tuatua, Labasa.

The second incident reported yesterday; three men aged 21-year-old, 23-year-old and 20-year-old are also in custody after four sachets of dried leaves were found in their possession in Naodamu, Labasa.

In the third incident also reported yesterday, a 40-year-old woman and a man was arrested after six plastic packets containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana were found in their possession along the Naodamu Feeder Road.

As investigations continue, Brigadier General Qiliho has directed his officers to ensure the war on drugs is not only focused on Operation Cavuraka currently ongoing in the Navosa Highlands.

QILIHO: “We are aware of the farming areas, but I don’t want our focus to remain solely on that because we know there are those who continue to sell marijuana on the streets and they are our next target. I have directed my officers to pay particular attention to this because during this International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) I want our children to know that we are serious about protecting them and their future from this illegal drug trade.”

Brigadier General Qiliho had directed his Divisional Police Commanders to step up on the policing of drug-related activities.
