A 31-year-old man charged with one count of ‘Act with Intent to Cause Grievous Harm’ and one count of ‘Theft’ appeared in the Suva High Court yesterday.
Jiuta Moroca appeared before Justice Salesi Temo.
Moroca is alleged to have attacked a 33-year-old woman in her shop on the 9th of May, 2016.
The DPP requested for four weeks to file information and disclosures and the defence did not object.
The Defence lawyer asked if a psychiatric evaluation could be conducted on his client to check if he is mentally fit and has the mental capacity to take a plea.
Justice Temo has adjourned the case on the 23rd of June for mention.
The accused has been further remanded in custody
The 33-year-old woman attacked in her shop last week is still in the hospital and would be interviewed after she recovers.
Police spokesperson Inspector Josaia Weicavu told Newswire the woman is conscious and in a stable condition, and has been given time to recover before being interviewed.
The 31-year-old man alleged to have attacked a 33-year-old woman in her shop on Monday appeared in a special court sitting at the Nasinu Magistrate Court this morning.
Jiuta Moroca of Tailevu appeared before Magistrate Sufia Hamza.
Moroca is charged with one count of ‘Act with Intent to Cause Grievous Harm’ and one count of ‘Theft’.
Police prosecutor Joseph Raymond told the court that the victim had sustained injuries to her head from continuous punching.
It is alleged that Moroca stole $2000 from the shop.
Moroca requested to seek Legal Aid assistance.
Magistrate Hamza transferred the case to the Suva High Court and adjourned to the 27th of May 2016.

Meanwhile, Police are yet to record the statement of the 33-year-old woman.
She is still recovering at the CWM hospital.
A man in his 30’s was arrested in Nadi yesterday by a team of Police officers from Valelevu. The man is the suspect in the Kinoya stabbing case.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that the man is in custody.
NAISORO: “At the moment the man is being questioned by police officers at the Valelevu police station.”
Naisoro said the man was known to police.
NAISORO: “The man was known to police. He was caught in Nadi and brought back to Valelevu. We just gathered information and we found out that he was there, so they went down and got him.”
Naisoro said they are yet to interview the 33-year-old woman who is still recovering in hospital.
Police investigators are yet to record the statement of the 33-year-old victim as she is still recovering in hospital.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the focus remains of gathering evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack.
Yesterday, Naisoro said the suspect is known to police.
NAISORO: “The suspect is known to police and efforts are being directed to ensure he is apprehended.”
Naisoro said police investigations continue.
Police are looking for a person who stabbed a 33-year-old woman in a shop in Kinoya yesterday.
Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the woman was rushed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital yesterday afternoon after she was allegedly stabbed.
NAISORO: “The 33-year-old woman was rushed to hospital yesterday, she’s still admitted at the CWM hospital. The incident occurred at her bakery shop yesterday.”
Naisoro said the woman was inside her shop when the incident occurred.
NAISORO: “We are appealing to members of the public if they have any information or saw anything to call Crime Stoppers on 919.”
Naisoro said police officers are still at the scene.
