According to police, Imshad Izraal Ali has been recharged with one count of murder.

Ali was initially charged with murdering his partner in 2009. He was granted bail by the court on medical grounds.  He went to India on a medical visa and overstayed, and his case in Fiji was dismissed.

His partner, Rajeshni Deo Sharma, was a kindergarten teacher and the alleged murder took place at Ali’s Howell Road home.

Police spokesperson Ms Ana Naisoro said the accused was deported from India.

NAISORO: “Through the partnership between the Indian Government and authorities as well as INTERPOL the accused was arrested and escorted back to Suva by a senior officer of the Fiji Police Force.”

Delhi Police had arrested Ali in 2014 while investigating a kidnapping case.

Ali was a pilot in Fiji between 2002 and 2007. In 2007, he allegedly made a bomb hoax call saying an explosive was aboard one of the aircraft. It is believed Ali was charged under the Civil Aviation Act in Fiji in connection with this incident.
