One of the two men charged with the murder of a 71-year-old Sushila Devi will take his plea in court next week.

The matter was called last Thursday (23 June) at the Lautoka High Court before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe.

Jovilisi Gadrovai who is charged with the murder of Devi in Lautoka will take his plea on the 8th of next month.

Gadrovai was also charged with aggravated robbery.

The State filed and served the information against Gadrovai and served a Nolle Prosequi against Peni Nakarawa.

Gadrovai has been further remanded in custody while Nakarawa has been discharged accordingly.

Two men appeared at the Lautoka Magistrate Court before Magistrate  Liyanage Wickramasekara yesterday for murder charges.

Jovilisi Gadrovai, 29, and Peni Nakarawa, 20, were  jointly charged with a count each of Murder and Aggravated Robbery.

It is alleged that the two accused persons murdered a 71-year-old woman and ransacked her house in Razaak road,Lautoka  making off with the deceased’s mobile phone and $120 cash on May, 20.

The court heard that both  the accused person’s had opted for Legal Aid representation.

Magistrate Wickramasekara has adjourned the matter to June 9 for mention.

A 29-year-old and a 20-year-old man both of Lautoka have been charged in relation to the alleged murder of a woman in her Lautoka home last week.

Police have charged the two men with a count each of ‘Murder’ and ‘Aggravated Robbery’.

They will be produced at the Lautoka Magistrate court today.

Three men are currently being questioned in relation to the alleged murder of a woman in her Lautoka home over the weekend.

In a statement, Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the three men were arrested yesterday.

No arrests have been made with regards to the alleged murder of a woman in her Lautoka home on Friday night.

This was confirmed by Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro this morning.

NAISORO: “Investigators are continuing to establish the motive behind the incident and we are also requesting anyone who may have information that could assist investigations to call Crime stoppers on 919.”

A woman believed to be in her 70s was allegedly murdered in her home after a suspected burglary last night.

A neighbour discovered the woman’s body at about 11 pm in her Rifle Range home in Lautoka.

As investigators work to locate the suspect, the Fiji Police is appalled and angered by the cowardly act by someone who purposely targeted an elderly woman while she was in the comfort of her home.

All efforts are being made to arrest the person or persons responsible.
