Rabindar Singh was convicted of one count of manslaughter last Friday for the death of Paulini Tubuna and Seruwaia Rokoseru on May 6th, 2014.  The two died instantly when they were crushed between two buses.

The prosecution had alleged that Singh had driven a Dee Cees company bus knowing it was defective and that the clutch and brake were not functioning efficiently.   This caused the bus to crash into a Nasese Company bus, forcing it (Nasese Bus) to move forward and collide with the two deceased persons.

The three assessors last week delivered their opinion and found Singh guilty of manslaughter.

Justice Temo said the sentence period was to punish Singh in a just manner and to protect the community from reckless drivers.

Singh has been sentenced to 8 years imprisonment and will be eligible for parole after seven years.  The court has given him 30 days to appeal his sentence.
