The Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism Faiyaz Siddiq Koya said the tourism industry recorded good visitor arrival for the first quarter of this year.

According to Minister Koya, the Tourism sector earned a total $340.9 million in the first quarter of the year; this is a 9.7 percent increase compared to 2015.

KOYA:”Fiji has created a strong position for itself in a highly competitive global tourism market. This has been possible through the collective efforts of the industry.”

“Following Cyclone Winston, the industry gelled together and partnered with the Fijian Government to ensure that business continued as usual with the Tourism Action Group focusing on strategizing and strengthening the tourism sector to ensure that the visitor numbers do not decline and today the numbers are a clear indication of the excellent work of the industry.”

He added that visitors arrival this year was 158,069 compared to 143,447 in 2015.
