Digicel Fiji has announced the removal of roaming rates for customers using their mobiles while travelling overseas in some of the most popular destinations.
This means that Digicel Prepay customers will now pay the low rates when roaming as they would when they are at home in Fiji.
From today, Digicel customers will now enjoy local rates for making calls, sending texts, and using data while roaming in the following countries:
- New Zealand
- Papua New Guinea
In a statement, Digicel Fiji CEO, Mr. Darren McLean said that this roaming service will change the way Fijians use their mobile phones overseas because travellers can make and take calls, send text messages and use data without concern about the additional costs applied to roaming.
McLEAN: “Many of our Fiji customers regularly travel to Australia and New Zealand and other Pacific markets, and they want to stay connected when they are overseas. The common practice is for customers to switch SIMs when they land because they don’t want surprises with their credit. With our ‘Roam Like You’re Home’ service customers can use their mobiles with confidence when travelling. It’s like taking your Digicel network with you.’
Mr McLean said it will be easy to use maps to find hotels or business meeting venues or even to call home to say they you have arrived safely using the Digicel Fiji sim card.
McLEAN: “We are offering the best possible roaming rates for our customers and if you are travelling and want to be connected, there is only one smart choice for your mobile provider and that is Digicel.”
Charges are 42c per minute to make and receive calls while roaming in the 7 Pacific destinations, 24c to send an SMS, and 21c per Mb.
The SMS, data and rate per minute for calling is the same as Digicel customers pay in Fiji.
These rates apply when roaming on any network in NZ and Australia, and on Digicel networks in the Pacific. Domestic bundles do not apply outside Fiji.
Meanwhile, the mobile telecommunications company will make an announcement on Postpay roaming over the coming days.
