Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) has exported a first shipment of about 21,000 tonnes this year, and has hailed the current cane season as successful.

Chief Executive Officer, Abdul Khan was quoted by Fiji Times:

To date we have just made over 48,000 tonnes of raw sugar and we have sent two shipments already.

For every tonne of sugar produced 8.33 tonnes of canes is needed.

The stakeholders are all playing their roles especially the farmers which is why the season has been a success so far.

According to Khan:

  • 21,000 tonnes of sugar has been exported so far this year with a market value of $13 million dollars
  • Fiji is expecting to export 180, 000 tonnes of sugar this season.
  • Sugar supplied in the Pacific region and Fiji is unaccounted in this figures.
