Fiji TV Director, Mr. Nouzab Fareed, said the new channel was part of the company’s expansion plans.

Responding to questions at a press conference last week, Mr. Fareed said part of the proceeds from the F$14m sale of EMTV could finance Fiji Two.

Mr. Fareed said the new channel would be launched on government’s new digital platform, Walesi.

Fiji Two is one initiative that is conditioned on the launch of the digital platform, Walesi.

Walesi was initially announced to be launched in October last year. Mr. Fareed directed questions on the launch of the new infrastructure to the Ministry of Communication, but he confirmed Fiji TV was ready to broadcast.

So far government has not given us a date but we were told the infrastructure is ready. We are waiting.

Fareed said Fiji TV would soon announce the types of local content to be expected on Fiji Two.

With the digital launch, we will definitely make a big splash about what exactly we are going to do.

It has to be multi language, multi talent, and multi skilled stuff, all different. We need to do that because it’s on a very competitive market, there are a number of channels so if you want to hold the audiences eyeballs we have to do the right thing.

Meanwhile, Director of Communications in the Ministry of Information and Communications, Shivnesh Prasad said Walesi was undergoing live testing with the aim of “commercial deployment of services in March 2016”.

We are working closely with the broadcasters and further announcements in this regard and the channel line-up details will be made in due course.
