Elections for appointment of Fijian Holdings director

Shareholders of the public company will choose between Mr Ulaiasi Taoi and Mr Yogesh Karan to appoint a new director to their board in February.

Mr Yogesh Karan is understood to be the nominee of iTaukei Land Trust Board and iTaukei Affairs Board, who are A Class shareholders and collectively own 1.6 million shares.

The special general meeting will be held at the Kshatriya Hall in Suva at 11.00 am on February 9.

Mr Ulaiasi Taoi is the managing director of UTtech Systems Limited currently serves as Director of Fiji Indigenous Business Council and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

He was previously a member of numerous boards, including Fijian Holdings Limited and its subsidiaries.

Mr Yogesh Karan is the Permanent Secretary for Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Sugar Industry and Immigration and was Fiji’s former High Commissioner to India.

He has also served as Fiji’s Alternate Director with the Asian Productivity Organisation, headquartered in Japan.

Five new directors were appointed at the company’s annual general meeting in October last year.  The new directors were Isikeli Tikoduadua, Faiz Khan, Sanjit Patel and Bob Lyon and Tony Whiton.

The appointment of a sixth director, Mr Adrian Sofield, was disputed by Mr Taoi.

Fijian Holdings group CEO, Mr Nouzab Fareed had then announced that the company would hold a special meeting.

“After consultation with our legal consultant and the SPSE, we have decided we will be having another EGM for this in January or so to solve this problem,” Mr Fareed had told Fiji Sun.
