The plastic bag levy is a new tax that is part of the Environmental and Climate Change Levy and came into force on August 01 this year.

In a statement, the Council said it had received numerous complaints that some traders are charging the levy, which has been referred to the FRCS.

Only shops with a point of sale system are required to impose this levy to customers, and the receipt must clearly show the charge as a line item.
