An increase of $5 million has been allocated to the Fiji Police Force following the announcement of the National Budget 2016-2017 this evening.

Attorney General and Minister of Finance, Hon. Aiyaz Sayed- Khaiyum tabled the budget in Parliament with $131.6 million allocated to the Police.

The Minister of Finance said that there is a must to equip the Police Force with proper equipment and facilities.

The Police budget also covers the upgrade and construction of new Police stations around Fiji.

Special Constables within the Police Force will see a 20% increase in wages.

$2.85 million has been allocated for construction of the new Valelevu Police station and preparation works for a new Police station in Nakasi, Nasinu.

In the Western division, $1 million is allocated for the construction of a Police station in Lautoka. The upgrade of the Nadi Police station is also expected to start soon.
