The government has allocated $250,000 in the budget announcement to set up a complaints system about health services in the country.

Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said people can pick up their phones and call the hotline to complain about a doctor or any health service.

The AG said the government hoped to extend this to other areas of government services.

SAYED-KHAIYUM: “A Complaints Hotline will be created through the Ministry of Civil Service. It will include development and dissemination of information kits on complaints lodgement and other related public relations material.”

Minister Sayed-Khaiyum said there will be a healthy increase doctors salary.

SAYED-KHAIYUM: “Doctors salary allocation for 2016-2017 amounting to $40.7 million has been moved to the Ministry of Civil Service budget. The Ministry of Civil Service will manage the implementation of new salary scale as well as other terms of employment related to doctors.”

The Ministry of Health and Medical services has been allocated a budget of $244 million in 2017.
