The Ministry of Fisheries and Forests has been allocated a sum of $2.4 million to support the reconstruction and recovery needs of the sector and out of this allocated amount $6 million is allocated for a fisheries sector recovery programme.

Due to the havoc spread by Tropical Cyclone Winston an addition to this $1.6 million has been set aside by the Fijian Government for the construction of institutional buildings, $6 million to complete the construction of the Rotuma Ice Plant and $1 million to carry out for pipeline ice plants to be built in Moala and Cicia.

Other major fisheries programmes funding allocations include $7 million for the completion of Caboni Multi-Species Hatchery, $6 million for Coastal Fisheries Development Programme, $5 million for Aquaculture Development and $3 million for Brackishwater Development.

Meanwhile, the damage inflicted by Tropical Cyclone Winston on the fisheries sector is valued at over $40.7 million.
